Of course, the first question on everyone's mind is "What do I need to get started?" Well, this depends on what type of terrain you are working on and how much detail you want.
For simple, paper cut-out type terrain, the following is needed:
- A good pair of scissors
- Glue (I would recommend the stick type glue personally)
- An exacto knife (for making cuts that the scissors cannot)
- A nice, clear work area (common sense here)
- Heavy card stock to affix the paper terrain to (assuming it is not already printed on heavy card stock)
- Paint brushes and paint (these are for touching up the edges of the finished piece)
- A cutting board is also nice to have to keep from cutting up the surface of your work area.
For more complicated terrrain, assuming it is not already painted, the following is needed:
- Paint brushes and paint
- Flocking (for finishing the base. This can be found just about anywhere that sells model railroad supplies.)
- Primer (spray-on or brush-on either one will work fine)
- A nice, clear work area (again, common sense here)
- Clear coat (for protecting your work when you finish)
Of course, if your terrain is already painted, then you are ready to play right away.
Note that flocking can be used with the paper terrain as well, to give it a bit more of a finished look. This is not necessary, however.
